Bandra-Worli Sea Link (BWSL) - Structural Engineering

Engineers are populace who put together the things to work. The toil and thoughts of engineers make accomplishment achievable. They put power and materials to work. Engineers work to develop economic and safe solutions to practical problems, by applying mathematics, scientific knowledge and cleverness while considering technical constraints. There are all sorts of engineers who are coming forward in sum or another field. One of them is Structural Engineering.

Structural Engineering is concerned with the study, planning, design, building, inspection, monitoring, upholding and treatment of enduring and temporary structures, as well as structural systems and their components.  Structural Engineering design the structure of buildings, bridges, towers, stadiums and that is not the limit they even design the structures for space satellites, aircrafts and ships etc. They build it strong enough and stable to resist all loads. They design and build it in such a manner that it can handle all types of calamity like rain, wind, snow, earth quake etc.

Bandra-Worli Sea Link (BWSL) is the most amazing structure designed and built by the structural engineers. This is the first bridge in India constructed on the sea and developed completely by the Indian engineers. It is the first longest bridge on sea in India; Bandra-Worli Sea Link is a structural engineering marvel spanning an arc of the Mumbai coastline. This bridge is also known as Rajiv Gandhi Sea Link. It is 5.6 kilometer (3.5 mile) long and width is 66 ft bridge constructed in Arabian Sea joins the two suburbs of Mumbai, Bandra and Worli. Bandra-Worli Sea Link has 8 lanes carriageway bridge across the open sea.

Bandra-Worli Sea Link (BWSL) consists of twin continuous tangible box girder bridge sections for traffic in each direction. It has 16-lane toll plaza with 20-m wide promenade together with state-of-the-art traffic complete with concrete barriers. The bridge alignment is defined with vertical and horizontal curves. It is a cable-stayed bridge with pre-stressed concrete-steel viaducts on either side. The bridge shortens the distance between the two suburbs that is Bandra in the Western Suburbs of Mumbai and Worli in South Mumbai, where the travelling time by normal road was 40 minutes now because of the Bandra-Worli Sea Link you can cover the distance in 7 minutes. The bridge looks awesome especially at night.

This can be the benefits of the structural engineering. So it matters a lot how the structure has been planned, designed to build it and to give the structure a strong foundation with a great look. In such way structural engineers makes a difference and shape the built environment. Structural engineers take up the challenges with excitement and face them with an excellent problem solving skills.
